CONAFER warns of expired patronatos at fairs

The National Fairs Commission (CONAFER) of the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) has warned exhibitors at national fairs not to formalize rental contracts with patronatos whose validity period has expired. In advance, CONAFER had informed of the start of a process for nominating candidates for the election of new patronatos, a period that expired on November 23. In a press release, the president of CONAFER, Juan Carvajal Arcia, directly points to the current Patronato of the International Fair of La Chorrera as one of those that has expired its validity period. Therefore, new patronatos and the board of directors will have to be elected, the communiqué states. "We have become aware that some unscrupulous people are charging for permits for booths at the International Fair of La Chorrera for the next year, 2026," states the director of CONAFER. The municipality of La Chorrera is also awaiting the designation of a new patronato and a board of directors to formalize the lease contract for the 13 hectares where the fair event is held. The city administration seeks to give these lands a new dynamic, so that they can generate jobs, develop entrepreneurship and tourism activities throughout the 12 months of the year. In February of this year, the La Chorrera municipal council requested the Minister of Agricultural Development, Roberto Linares, to replace the board of directors of the La Chorrera Fair patronato. The request is based on article eleven of executive decree number 84 of December 5, 1997, which reorganizes the National Fairs Commission.
